We have a new role for a Cloud Design Manager to join our Telco Cloud Team. The team delivers across our 4 and 5G core infrastructure focusing on increasing agility, efficiency, and reliability across our public and private cloud, networking and service offerings, while reducing operational burden and enabling innovation for application owners.

The Cloud Design Manager plays a critical role in managing design demand, and maintaining high-quality architectural documentation aligned with Virgin Media O2’s standards. This role is a blend of Specialist Technical expertise and Senior Management leadership, ensuring the telco cloud infrastructure evolves efficiently while fostering operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

Technical Focus:

  • Act as a recognized expert in cloud infrastructure design and telco cloud technologies.
  • Apply deep functional knowledge to solve complex cloud architecture challenges.
  • Independently lead the development of reusable assets, templates, and design patterns for Telco Cloud.
  • Ensure technical documentation adheres to industry standards.

Management Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to delivery teams.
  • Align resources and priorities effectively to maximize architectural progress.
  • Oversee performance results across multiple teams and drive process efficiency improvements.
  • Develop and implement departmental plans, ensuring they align with broader business objectives.
  • Control financial and human resources, optimizing utilisation and cost-effectiveness.
  • Maintain stakeholder engagement at all levels, ensuring alignment between business needs and technical solutions.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement through collaboration and feedback.
  • Lead and motivate a multi-disciplinary team, maintaining high performance and engagement.
  • Actively manage capacity planning and optimise use of team resources during low demand cycles.

The must haves
  • Experienced working in a Telco environment with a focus on cloud infrastructure and automation in telecommunications.
  • Expert-level knowledge of Telco Cloud technologies, including Kubernetes, Virtualisation and orchestration frameworks like GitOps.
  • Ability to work autonomously, applying advanced problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience managing multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Proven ability to develop strategic plans and optimize team output.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, ensuring smooth cross-functional collaboration.
  • Experience in scaling documentation standards, process maturity, and performance frameworks.
The other stuff we are looking for
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms
  • Proven knowledge of network virtualization, NFV, SDN, and telco-grade cloud infrastructure.
  • Strong expertise in automation frameworks, scripting (Python, Terraform, Ansible), and infrastructure as code (IaC).
